Investing in custom flooring is never a bad decision. Not only will the floor that you choose complement your home perfectly, but it will be everything that you need in a flooring material. While the hard work is done once the floor has been installed, the work itself doesn’t stop there.

In order for your floors to continue looking good as new, it’s up to you to maintain and care for them. In today’s blog post we’re going to cover a few of the major do’s and don’ts that come with caring for your custom floors. Let’s dive in.

Invest in a Welcome Mat

A welcome mat or a mat at the entrance of your home is one of the biggest do’s in regards to maintaining custom flooring. These mats are there to help keep the dirt and mud that so easily find a way into your home, at a minimum. This is nice for brand new carpets because you can prevent any dirt and mud from affecting the look of the carpets and soaking into the material. Dirty shoes are one of the major causes of damaged carpets, but that can be minimized by ensuring dirty shoes never make it onto the carpet in the first place.

These rugs aren’t only good for carpet, they’re great for hardwood floors, too! When rocks or dirt catch onto the bottom of your shoe, and you walk onto your hardwood floors, you wind up scratching them and leaving them marked up. By having a rug at the entrance of your door, you can catch these rocks and sand before they ever enter your home.

Clean Regularly

Vacuuming and sweeping your floors on a regular basis is one of the best ways to ensure that your floors look and feel clean. The more routinely that you clean your floors, the less likely you are to experience a buildup of dirt on either your carpet or your hardwood floors. If you have pets or live in an area where dirt is more likely to make its way into your home, then sweeping and vacuuming become even more crucial.

Cleaning regularly doesn’t mean that you have to be cleaning on a daily basis, and it’s important to note that. By simply making sure that your floors are cleaned at least once a week or every couple of days if they start to show the need for it, you can guarantee you’ll get more life out of your custom floors.
